TEAM
Survivor Mission
Our
mission is is to provide free exercise and fitness opportunities for adults living with cancer, creating an opportunity for movement, education, and connection in a welcoming and positive environment. We
aim to accomplish this by providing a variety of programs.
Check out this 2-minute video of Jodi Brown, our Program Director, describing the impact of the Team Survivor programs.
Why
Team Survivor?
Multiple research studies have proven the physical and pyschological
benefits of an exercise program for people who are undergoing or
have undergone cancer treatment, and updated guidelines
on exercise for cancer patients have recently been published. Team Survivor is a program of group
exercise, educational classes and fun fitness events for adults of
all ages and fitness levels who have a present or past diagnosis
of cancer. Team Survivor's group exercise programs offer the opportunity
not just to become fit again (or for the first time!), but also
to gain a sense of accomplishment, a degree of emotional support,
and a renewed comfort with one's body. As they work out together,
the Team Survivor participants are supporting one another in their
fitness goals and healing journeys.
Team
Survivor Los Angeles (TSLA) was founded in 1999 by two cancer survivors
who wanted to help others to integrate regular fitness activities
into their lives during and after cancer treatment.
